Using League & Tournament Scheduler
You can use SeasonSolver two ways: in a ChatGPT or Claude conversation, or with the free form at seasonsolver.com/app. Both use the same scheduler and the same checker.
Connecting It
Once League & Tournament Scheduler is listed, you'll find it in the ChatGPT and Claude app directories by name. Until then, add it as a custom connector with this address:
https://seasonsolver.com/mcp
It doesn't ask you to sign in, and it can't see anything in your account beyond what the conversation sends it.
Example Requests
- "Schedule my rec soccer league. Season runs Sept 8 to Nov 14. Two fields at Rolfe Park, open Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 and 6:45, plus Saturdays at 9, 10:15, and 11:30. Ten U10 teams, everyone plays everyone once. No games Columbus Day weekend."
- "We have a one-day volleyball tournament on three courts from 8 to 6. Twelve teams, three pools of four, top two from each pool make a bracket. Games are 50 minutes."
- "The Hawks can't play Tuesdays and the Owls and Otters share a coach. Rebuild the schedule with those added."
- "Memorial Field is closed October 17. Keep every game before that date where it is and rebuild the rest."
- "Publish it so I can send the link to coaches."
What Happens Behind the Scenes
The chatbot uses three tools, always in this order:
Check a League Setup
Reads every rule back in plain English, catches setup mistakes (a date outside the season, a team limit for a team that doesn't exist), and runs counting checks that prove when rules can't all fit. The chatbot should show you the numbered rules and ask you to confirm them. Read them carefully: this is where a misunderstanding is cheapest to fix.
Build a Schedule
Places every game, then hands the result to a checker that shares no code with the scheduler. The checker rebuilds the open field times, required matchups, pools, and bracket from your rules and tests each game against each one.
Publish a Schedule Link
Only runs when you ask to share. It builds and checks the schedule again, saves it, and returns a link with a printable page, a spreadsheet download, and a calendar feed for each team. Anyone with the link can view it.
What the Results Mean
- Every required rule is met. The checker confirmed each game. Fairness goals (home and away balance, early and late slots) are reported separately, with a note when a team's own limits make perfect balance impossible.
- The rules can't all be met. There's proof, usually a count: more games than open field times, or a team with fewer open dates than games. You'll see which rules collide and a suggested fix.
- No schedule found. The counts work, but the scheduler couldn't satisfy every rule within its time limit. You'll see which rules the best attempt still broke. Nothing from that attempt is presented as a final schedule. Adding a field time or loosening one rule usually fixes it.
- Setup mistakes. Something in the setup doesn't make sense yet, like an end date before the start date. Each one is explained.
Tips for Good Schedules
- Set the game length to include changeover time. A 50-minute game on a field booked every hour should be entered as 60 minutes, or as 50 minutes with a new game every 60.
- List the fields a division can use if younger teams need smaller fields.
- For a bracket, list teams in seed order, best first.
- Use "Variation" (or ask the chatbot for a different seed) to get a different schedule that follows the same rules.
- Bracket games show "Winner of SF1" until results are in. Team calendar feeds include each team's known games.
Changing a Schedule Mid-Season
Ask to keep games before a date where they are, then describe the change (a closed field, a team dropping out, a rainout). Played games stay locked in place and the rest is rebuilt and rechecked. Publishing again creates a new link.
Limits
Up to 20 divisions, 64 teams per division, 1,500 games, and a season up to 400 days. Most schedules take under a second; the largest take around 10 seconds.
Privacy
Setups sent from ChatGPT or Claude are used to build the schedule and aren't kept unless you publish. The web form keeps your setup in your own browser. Please use team names rather than players' names. Full details are in the privacy policy.
